Park Day 2017!

Fence Building a Few Years Back

This year volunteers will not only be clearing interpretive trails of trash and debris but also involved in building a period fence and clearing a path to an old African American cemetery.

Becoming a Park Day volunteer will allow you to enjoy the improved site and to put your own personal and ever-lasting touch on finalizing and preserving this important part of Culpeper history.

Everyone is invited to join the 13th annual volunteer Park Day.  It is truly a great way to enjoy the Battlefield, to make new friends and to contribute to the need to preserve this genuine part of American history!

Volunteers will be welcomed and registered at 8:30 a.m. and assigned work beginning at 9 a.m. on April 1st.  Volunteers should bring work gloves, hats and sturdy shoes.  Reflective vests will be available at the site.
Other things you may bring could include - trash bags, pruning shears, wheelbarrows, mulch forks and rakes. Post hole digger & chain saw.

Advance registration will enhance duty assignments that match volunteer's interest and skill and helps planners to provide needed supplies and tools.  You may contact Diane Logan  to volunteer or to pose questions.  Those who may prefer to make a tax deductible contribution to defray Park Day costs may send to:  FCMB, P.O. Box 1853, Culpeper, VA 22701 or use the "Donate" button on our web site.

The Cedar Mountain Battlefield, identified by historic markers, is located about 6 miles south of Culpeper from Route 15 (Culpeper/Orange Hwy) turn right at General Winder Rd.

Water, snacks, Park Day T-Shirts and patches (for the first 30 to register) will be available at the HQ House at 9465 General Winder Rd.

Unlike many area Civil War Battle sites, Cedar Mountain is not managed by the National Park Service.  The Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield serves as the community-based, non-profit, voluntary organization, working cooperatively with landowners, local citizens, and the Trust to protect, restore, maintain, interpret, and promote public awareness of the historic Battlefield.
